Anti-Dumping Duty on Chinese Mirrors Under Review

A sunset review of the anti-dumping duty on unframed glass mirrors imported from China is underway.

The trade and industry department announced the initiation of the review in Government Gazette 41632.

Comment Sought on PIC Amendment Bills

The standing committee on finance seeks comment on the Public Investment Corporation Amendment Bill (Private Member’s Bill) & Draft Public Investment Corporation Amendment Bill (Committee Bill).

The Public Investment Corporation Amendment Bill was drawn up by David Maynier, a Democratic Alliance member of parliament.

Transport Legislation Under Review

A ministerial task team consisting of representatives from the justice department, National Prosecuting Authority and Road Traffic Management Corporation has been set up to review current transport legislation.

The transport minister, Blade Nzimande, announced this during his department’s budget vote speech in parliament.

National Small Business Amendment Bill in the Pipeline

The Draft National Small Business Amendment Bill will be drawn up by November 2018.

During her department’s budget vote speech in parliament, the small business development minister, Lindiwe Zulu, added that the proposed legislation will, inter alia, provide for a new schedule supporting the definitions of SMMEs.

Aquaculture Development Bill on Track

The Draft Aquaculture Development Bill, recently approved by cabinet for tabling in parliament, will provide a legislative framework for sector development.

The agriculture, forestry and fisheries minister, Senzeni Zokwana, confirmed this while delivering his department’s budget vote speech in parliament.

Draft Climate Change Bill Under Construction

A Draft Climate Change Bill is in the pipeline.

Speaking during her department’s budget vote debate in parliament, the environmental affairs minister, Edna Molewa, clarified that the proposed legislation is designed to provide an effective national response for both mitigation and adaptation measures.

NCOP Seeks Comment on Political Party Funding Bill

The Ad Hoc Committee on the Funding of Political Parties in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) seeks comment on the Political Party Funding Bill.

The bill was passed by the National Assembly and sent to the NCOP for concurrence at the end of March 2018.
