Treasury Provides Feedback on Debt Relief Bill

National Treasury

National treasury has declared its support for revised proposals in the Draft National Credit Amendment Bill relating to an ongoing no income-no assets sequestration process.

Treasury added that the proposals replace the need for ad hoc ministerial powers (section 88F) and compulsory insurance.

NERSA Briefs Parliament on Eskom 2018/19 Revenue Application

Eskom has continuously failed to collect the allowed revenues while its spending has also continued to exceed that determined by the National Energy Regulator (NERSA).

NERSA declared this during a briefing to parliament on Eskom’s revenue application for 2018/19.

The department emphasized this during a briefing to the portfolio committee on trade and industry’s sub-committee on the Copyright Amendment Bill.

National treasury recently briefed the portfolio committee on trade and industry on the constitutionality of the Draft National Credit Amendment Bill.

The draft committee bill is designed to provide debt interventions for low income, over-indebted consumers.

Signing of 27 IPP Projects Postponed

Department of Energy

The signing of 27 Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Projects under Bid Window 3.5 and Bid Window 4 has been postponed.

In a statement, the energy department announced that two non-governmental organisations, Transform RSA NPC and National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa, had approached the Pretoria High Court on 12 March 2018 to interdict the signing process.

Draft Roads Policy for South Africa Drawn Up

The Draft Roads Policy for South Africa has been published in Government Gazette 41488 for comment.

The transport department has given stakeholders 30 days to submit comments on the proposed policy.
