Legislation Remains On Hold Whilst Parliament Closes

Parliament of South Africa

A newly tabled South African Postbank Bill is amongst the ten pieces of legislation currently in process when Parliament went into recess recently, to remain so until 25 January 2010.

Other legislation in the process of deliberation is the Protection of Personal Information Bill and the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Bill, together with the Constitution Seventeenth Amendment Bill and the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Bill.

Re-introduced to Parliament before it went into recess were the Superior Courts Bill and the Built Environment Professions Bill. Two health bills are awaiting the further attention of the health portfolio committee in the form of the National Health Amendment Bill and the Medical Schemes Amendment Bill.

The Traditional Courts Bill, originally introduced in 2008, still remains tabled but held up for technical reasons. All bills as tabled can be accessed on Bill Tracker, Sabinet Online.

President Zuma will deliver his state of the nation speech on February 11.
