Remote Gambling Bill Tabled in Parliament

Proposed legislation designed to put a regulatory framework for remote gambling in place has been tabled in parliament.

The Remote Gambling Bill, a private member’s bill drawn up by the Democratic Alliance’s Geordin Hill-Lewis, seeks to plug a loophole in current national gambling legislation characterised by an unregulated online gambling sector.

Liquor Norms and Standards in Place

Norms and standards for the liquor industry have been published in Government Gazette 38459.

They are published in terms of the Liquor Act of 2003.

Trade in Rhino Horn Under the Spotlight

Department of Environmental Affairs

Edna Molewa, the Minister of Environmental Affairs, recently introduced the Committee of Inquiry tasked with investigating the feasibility of a trade in rhino horn. The 21 member committee is chaired by Nana Magomola.

She stated that it is important to emphasize that South Africa has not taken a position on the issue, and will not do so until the committee has completed its work and presented its findings.
