SASCOC Trademarks Under the Spotlight

The use of South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) trademarks is to be tightened up.

A proposal to restrict the use of certain marks to SASCOC has been published for comment by the trade and industry department in Government Gazette 37889.

Gambling Norms and Standards Close to Completion

Stakeholder input on Draft National Gambling Norms and Standards released for comment in May 2014 is currently being evaluated as part of the finalisation process.

The trade and industry department announced this during a briefing on its consumer and corporate regulation division in parliament last week.  

Medical Marijuana Bill Revived

Two health bills that were before parliament before the national elections in May, have been revived by the national assembly.

The national assembly has agreed to “resume proceedings” on the Medicines and Related Substances Amendment Bill (B6 – 2014) and the Medical Innovation Bill (PMB 8 – 2013) from the stage that they had reached on the last sitting day of the previous parliament.
