Electricity Theft Detection Device Under Development

Science and technology minister Naledi Pandor says a device to detect electricity theft will soon be made available to the public and installed in prepaid meter boxes.

The minister was replying to a parliamentary question about the apparatus, which was developed by the Technology Innovation Agency and called Saggitarious Serpentariou.

Research on Fracking Underway

Science and technology minister Naledi Pandor says independent research, to prevent the possible negative environmental impact of hydraulic fracturing for shale gas, is in the offing.

In a reply to a question in parliament the minister revealed that her department has commissioned the Academy of Science of South Africa to put together a panel of experts to draw up a fracturing research plan.  At this stage the plan is under development.

Feedback on Research Tax Incentives in 2015

Science and technology minister Naledi Pandor says by next year it should be clearer what effect the government’s tax incentives for research and development have had.

In a written reply to a question in parliament, the minister points out that it is only since the beginning of this financial year that incentive recipients have to report on progress of approved projects and what impact the inducement has had on their research and development.
