Public enterprises minister Malusi Gigaba has launched a climate change policy framework for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) that seeks to align their work with the United Nations global compact (UNGC).

The UNGC calls companies everywhere to “voluntarily align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, the environment and labour, among others”.

Department of Economic Development

The strengthening of institutional capacity in key organisations is a priority of the economic development department in the medium term.

This was revealed by the economic development minister, Ebrahim Patel, in his budget vote speech delivered in Parliament.

Department of Energy

The energy department has called for expressions of interest from people interested in serving on the boards of five energy-related state-owned enterprises (SOE).

In a notice published in the Government Gazette, the department added that the names will be included in a database of potential board members.
