SOEs Should Correct Market Failures, Says Minister

Public Enterprises minister Malusi Gigaba expects state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to “correct market failures”.
“SOEs are ... government’s specialist intervention instruments in the economy and (the) extended arm of government (in delivering) critical services,” the minister said.
“Green Economy” Policy for SOEs Still in Draft Form

A policy to guide state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in their engagement with the challenges of moving towards a green economy is still in draft form and awaiting the outcome of consultations with individual SOEs.
This is according to public enterprises minister Malusi Gigaba, who made the remark during an address at the Development Bank of Southern Africa’s recent knowledge week on “greening infrastructure programmes”.
Review of State-Owned Enterprises Underway: Public Submissions Invited

The presidential review committee on state-owned entities (SOEs) has invited members of the public, role players and stakeholders to make submissions that will contribute to the review process.
The review committee was established in acknowledgement of the need to strengthen the role of SOEs so that they respond to a clearly defined public mandate and support government aspirations for a developmental state.
