NERSA Seeks Part-Time Members

Part-time members of the National Energy Regulator are being sought.

The energy department published the call for nominations of candidates in Government Gazette 41292.

NERSA consists of four full-time regulator members and five part-time regulator members.

The term of office for part-time regulators is four years.

Successful candidates will commence duties on 1 March 2018.

Nominations are invited until 22 December 2017.

Meanwhile, the department will be hosting an Energy Indaba in Johannesburg from 7 to 8 December 2017.

The Indaba will focus on the theme, “Energy Sector Stimulating Economic Growth, Development and Job Creation”.

President Zuma will deliver an address at the Indaba and energy sector experts will discuss “concrete solutions on how the sector will re-energize the economy to achieve radical socio-economic transformation whilst creating the necessary jobs.”

In a separate matter, the inter-ministerial task team on constitutional challenges relating to electricity reticulation recently briefed parliament on its report.

An advisory panel set up to consider the provisions of legislation governing electricity reticulation and distribution and advise the task team on the matter will complete its work within two months.

The task team has also asked the department to develop a policy on public and street lighting by the end of September 2018.
