The one environmental system governing the licence application process for mining activities came into force on 8 December 2014.
In a joint statement issued by the mineral resources, environmental affairs and water affairs departments, the new system is described as representing government’s commitment to removing obstacles to doing business in South Africa as well as attracting investment into the local mining industry.
