Department of Justice and Constitutional Development
The justice and constitutional development department has published regulations in the Government Gazette relating to the Administration of Estates Act.
The regulations are made in terms of section 103 of the act.
The regulations set down new remuneration scales for appraisers.
Appraisers will now receive R246.20 for valuations of R10 000 and less.
The tariff for valuations exceeding R20 000 and up to R300 000 will now receive R281.40.
As regards valuations exceeding R800 000, appraisers will earn R2 690.80 for the first R800 000 and R1.80 per R1000 or part thereof thereafter.
The regulations also contain new allowances that appraisers can claim in addition to the remuneration and transport allowance as set out in regulations 9 and 10.
Appraisers can now claim R44 per hour for travelling to conduct an appraisal. However, this may not exceed R439.70 per day.
In instances where an appraiser must remain at a location without actually carrying out an appraisal, R44 per completed hour can also be claimed.
The new regulations came into effect on 18 November 2011.
The new tariff structure only applies to appraisals made on the date of operation or thereafter.
