Banks to Participate in Smart ID Project

Government is hard at work to ensure that citizens will in future be able to apply for Smart ID cards at home affairs kiosks situated in their nearest bank.

The home affairs minister, Malusi Gigaba, revealed this during a Governance and Administration Cluster briefing in parliament yesterday.

New Immigration Advisory Board to be Appointed

Home affairs minister Malusi Gigaba says a new immigration advisory board will be appointed no later than 1 June next year.

The minister replied to a parliamentary question in this regard.

Government Printing Works Costs Under Scrutiny

Home affairs says costs will not be much different if the Government Printing Works (GPW) is converted to a state-owned enterprise.

In answering a parliamentary question on whether a financial cost assessment had been done, home affairs minister Malusi Gigaba said initial assessments of the conversion expenditures had been made and it was “not anticipated that such costs will be greatly different from the current overhead costs of maintaining the government printing works”.
