Registration of Dental Assistants Regulations to be Tweaked

Department of Health

The health minister has published a proposed amendment to the Health Professions Act’s Regulations Relating to the Qualifications for Registration of Dental Assistants.

The draft amendment proposes that any person who worked as a dental assistant prior to the coming into force of the amendment may apply to the board for registration as a dental assistant. The application would have to reach the board within four months after the date of publication of the promulgation notice.

This would allow for the applicant to be exempted from sub-regulation 1 that contains a list of recognized qualifications on condition that the applicant passed the board examination within two years after registration as a dental assistant.

According to notice 850 in Government Gazette 40154, those interested in submitting written comments on the draft amendment should do so within one month from the date of publication of the notice.
