A ministerial task team is in the process of developing a “detailed and innovative nursing strategy and plan” and has invited input from stakeholders.
According to a notice published on the department’s website, the plan will seek to “take forward recommendations made at the national nursing summit and to give effect to the nursing compact”.
The compact was signed at the summit in April 2011.
The task team is calling for input from nurses, professional interest groups and “other stakeholders” on “one or all of the following work-streams”:
• the “positioning of nursing education and training”;
• student status;
• “resourcing nursing”;
• clinical training;
• compensation, benefits and conditions of service;
• a “positive practice environment”;
• governance, policy, legislation and leadership;
• professional ethics and ethos; and
• norms and standards for nursing staff.
The deadline for written submissions is 15 February 2012.
