The health department revealed this during a briefing on its fourth quarter (2015/16) performance report in parliament.

The health department has published draft amended Regulations Relating to the Labelling, Advertising and Composition of Cosmetics in Government Gazette 40216 for comment.

The proposed regulations flow from the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act.

The Council for Medical Schemes has published its draft declaration of certain brand-sharing practices between medical schemes and their administrators as undesirable practices for comment.

The draft declaration is published in Notice 917 in Government Gazette 40209 in terms of the Medical Schemes Act.

The health department has issued the Medicines Control Council’s conditions of registration of a medicine in terms of the provisions of the Medicines and Related Substances Act.

The list of medications that were registered between 18 February and 9 June 2016 is contained in notice 916 in Government Gazette 40208.

The health department published the proposed fees in terms of the Medicines and Related Substances Act of 1965.

A new definition on health supplements is to be added to the general regulations made in terms of the Medicines and Related Substances Act.

Draft amendment regulations were published in Government Gazette 40158 for comment.

Registration of Dental Assistants Regulations to be Tweaked

The health minister has published a proposed amendment to the Health Professions Act’s Regulations Relating to the Qualifications for Registration of Dental Assistants.

The draft amendment proposes that any person who worked as a dental assistant prior to the coming into force of the amendment may apply to the board for registration as a dental assistant. The application would have to reach the board within four months after the date of publication of the promulgation notice.

Draft Emergency Medical Services Regulations Drawn Up

Draft Emergency Medical Services Regulations have been published in Government Gazette 40140 for comment.

The proposed regulations were drawn up in terms of the National Health Act.
