Parliament Gives Green Light to Development Bank Bill

The Development Bank of Southern Africa Amendment Bill is on its way to president Zuma for signing after parliament passed it this week.

The bill was originally tabled in parliament in February 2014, lapsed at the end of the fourth parliament but revived at the start of the fifth parliament.

Repatriation Deposits to be Refunded

The department of home affairs has announced its plans for the refunding of repatriation deposits.

Persons who, prior to the coming into operation of the Immigration Amendment Act, 2011 on 26 May 2014, paid a deposit as a guarantee of them returning to their country of origin, are eligible.

Japan to Sponsor Science Research Projects

The Japanese and South African governments are calling for joint research proposals for a science and technology partnership.

According to a notice on the department of science and technology website, the Japanese government supplements “the country’s conventional approach to technology transfer with the sponsorship of joint research initiatives between Japanese universities and research institutions and their counterparts in developing countries, including South Africa”.
