South Africa-Cuba Defence Cooperation Agreement Signed

South Africa has signed an agreement on defence cooperation with Cuba at a ceremony in Pretoria.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the defence and military veterans minister, Lindiwe Sisulu, indicated that the agreement sought to foster cooperation between the two countries in a number of areas including military veterans, defence industries, military health and training and exchange programmes.

The South African Law Review Commission (SALRC) has invited comment on its proposed amendments to, or repeal of, legislation administered by the department of international relations and cooperation (dirco).

Law to Set Up Special Economic Zones on the Cards

The trade and industry department is contemplating introducing new legislation that would enable government to set up new special economic zones (SEZ).

According to engineering news, the department’s director general, Lionel October, recently indicated that a new dedicated Special Economic Zones Act would empower government to establish SEZs in areas not linked to an airport or sea port.
