National Treasury

The Davis Tax Committee (DTC) has concluded its work.

In a statement, the DTC expressed the hope that it had delivered on its mandate and that it has “served the needs of South Africa well despite its challenges.”

The DTC was set up in 2013 to “inquire into the role of the tax system in the promotion of inclusive economic growth, employment creation, development and fiscal sustainability.”

Four final reports on VAT, corporate income tax, public benefit organisations and wealth tax have been published.

25 reports in total were submitted to the minister over the course of its tenure.

The DTC held its last meeting on 27 March 2018.

A closing report on its work has been issued.

Some of the issues focused on include small business, base erosion and profit shifting, mining, VAT, carbon tax, funding National Health Insurance and tertiary education and tax incentives.

Any announcements flowing from the reports will be made by the finance minister as part of the normal budget and legislative processes.
