Compensation Fund Pensions Revised

The department of labour has published the minimum level of pension of the Compensation Fund.

In terms of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Disease Act, the revised monthly pensions payable were published in Notice 658 in Government Gazette 39044.

From 1 April 2015, the monthly pensions payable in terms of the Act are as follows:

•    Minimum level of monthly pensions of R1 500 per month to all existing pensioners (excluding spouse and child pensioners);
•    Minimum monthly pension of R1 245 per month to all existing spouses and R623 per month for a child where the employee is deceased;
•    Where the existing pensioner (excluding spouse and children) has commuted his/her pension the minimum pension of R1 500 per month should be reduced with the same proportion; and
•    Where the existing spouse has commuted his/her pension the minimum pension of R1 245 per month should be reduced with the same proportion.

Meanwhile, two notices with regards to Bargaining Councils were recently published. They are:

•    Notice 758 in Government Gazette 39043 – Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining Council: Extension to non-parties of the registration and administration expenses collective agreement. This collective agreement will come into effect from the second Monday after the date of publication of this Notice and for the period ending June 2016;
•    Notice 656 in Government Gazette 39036 – Bargaining Council for the Motor Industry –MIBCO: Extension to non-parties of the administrative collective amending agreement. This agreement shall remain in operation for the period ending 31 January 2016.
