East London Special Economic Zone in Place

The trade and industry department has announced, in Government Gazette 40860, the designation of the East London Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

According to section 39(2) of the Special Economic Zones Act, any existing Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) in force before the SEZ Act came into effect must be regarded as a SEZ when the act kicked in.

The economic development department has published, in Government Gazette 40860, amended terms of reference for the Grocery Retail Sector Market Inquiry.

The inquiry got underway in 2015.

Market Inquiry into Data Costs to be Launched

A market inquiry into data costs is on the cards.

Speaking during his department’s budget vote speech in parliament, the economic development minister, Ebrahim Patel, added that the envisaged inquiry would help to promote the new data-driven economy and address high data costs.
