Fees for Private Security Firms Under Review

Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority

The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) is currently reviewing the annual fees private security firms pay to it to regulate the industry.

PSIRA published a consultation paper on a review of the annual fees for the private security industry in Government Gazette 39682.

The Private Security Levies Act of 2002 will also be reviewed during 2016 to address current funding gaps.

Part of the consultation process will include hearings with stakeholders during March 2016.

Some of the proposed fees include R35 000 for large entities with more than 5000 security officers employed, R25 000 for medium sized firms employing between 501 and 5000 personnel and R8 500 for small firms employing less than 100.

All firms, irrespective of size, will be expected to pay R2.30 per officer on a monthly basis.

Written comment on the proposals is invited until 11 March 2016.
