Cap on Sheriffs' Commission Under Scrutiny

The Rules Board for Courts of Law is considering whether the cap on the commission paid to sheriffs when immovable property is sold in execution should be removed.

This is one of a number of proposed amendments to the rules of court released by the board for comment.

Forensic DNA Rules Drawn Up

Proposed regulations outlining how the South African Police Service (SAPS) will be allowed to take DNA samples from suspects have been published in Government Gazette 38074 for comment.

The draft regulations were drawn up in terms of section 6 of the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act of 2013.

Police Committee Sets Sights on Gun Control

The national assembly’s police committee is targeting gun control in South Africa.

In a statement released following a visit to the Central Firearms Registry in Pretoria, the committee has instructed the secretariat for police to identify all legislative gaps hindering effective gun control and place the list before its members.
