A proposed amendment of the Broadcasting Digital Migration Policy in terms of the Electronic Communications Act (2005) has been published for public comment.
The amendment refers to the use of a control system for set top boxes (STBs) following an extensive review of the system and consultations with stakeholders.
A cabinet statement released yesterday announced cabinet’s approval of the National Broadband Policy, Strategy and Plan, the Broadcasting Digital Migration Policy and the green paper for the National Integrated Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Policy.
All of the policies concern the digitisation of communications technology and are aimed at broadening access to communications in South Africa.
Independent Communications Authority of South Africa
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has published a notice inviting licensees to renew radio frequency licences for amateur, aeronautical or ship station categories.
In terms of the radio frequency spectrum regulations licensees should apply for the renewal of radio frequency licences and/or a multiple year licence.
