Broadcasting Digital Migration on Track

The communications department plans to issue set top boxes (STB) to the remaining five provinces in 2017/18 with particular focus on borderline areas as a first priority.

The department announced this during a progress update briefing on the implementation of the broadcasting digital migration programme in parliament last week.

ICASA Shines Light on Licensee Compliance

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has put compliance by all licensees under the spotlight.

ICASA issued Notice 584 in Government Gazette 40268 as a general notice to remind all licensees to ensure that when they make any compliance submissions, they remain aware of and comply in full with the set requirements of the relevant regulation/legislation.

Award Process for Radio Frequency Spectrum Licences Adjusted

Independent Communications Authority

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa has amended its original invitation inviting interested persons to submit their applications to apply for a radio frequency spectrum licence.

The licence relates to providing mobile broadband wireless access services for urban and rural areas across the country using the complimentary bands, 700MHz, 800MHz and 2.6GHz.
