ICASA Places Renewed Focus on BBBEE

Independent Communications Authority

The Independent Communications Authority (ICASA) plans to further promote broad-based black economic empowerment by regulation next year.

According to a notice in the Government Gazette (38087 / 881 of 10 October 2014) “the Authority will in the 2014 / 2015 financial year, prescribe regulations on empowerment requirements to promote broad-based black economic empowerment in line with section 4(3) (k) of the ICASA Act, read with section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act”.

Toll Free Framework Compliance Extended

Independent Communications Authority

The Independent Communications Authority (ICASA) has extended the compliance period of the toll free framework, the premium rate service code of practice and migration and the migration of machine related services.

According to a notice in the Government Gazette (38065 / 852) compliance with the toll free framework and the premium rate service code is extended to 31 July 2015 and of the migration of machine related services until 31 December 2015.

New Classification Guidelines for Films

Department of Communications

New guidelines for the classification of films, interactive computer games and certain publications have been published in Government Gazette 38051.

The guidelines were drawn up by the Film and Publication Board (FPB) in consultation with the home affairs minister.
