ICASA Seeks Free to Air TV Broadcasters

Independent Communications Authority

The Independent Communications Authority (ICASA) is inviting applications for individual commercial free to air television broadcasting licences.

According to a notice in the Government Gazette (37953 / 739 of 29 August 2014) the call, in terms of section 9 of the Electronic Communications Act (36 of 2005), only applies to service licence applications. 

ICT White Paper on Track

Telecommunications and postal services minister Siyabonga Cwele says the policy or white paper on Integrated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) should be ready by March next year.

The minister told the Telecommunication Networks and Application Conference (SATNAC) in Port Elizabeth government fast tracked the ICT policy review process to modernise the laws and regulations and to “most importantly, create certainty to investors in the sector”.

Mobile Telecommunications Road Map Under Construction

Independent Communications Authority

The Independent Communications Authority (ICASA) has published the Draft International Mobile Telecommunications Road Map for consultation.

The plan, in terms of the Electronic Communications Act (36 of 2005), has been published in the Government Gazette (37948 / 729 and 730).
