DAFF Promulgates 1991 Standards and Requirements for Exporting Deciduous Fruits

The department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries (DAFF) has announced the promulgation of standards and requirements for exporting deciduous fruits originally published in 1991.

This is according to notice 225 of Government Gazette 35155 dated 23 March 2012, which states that the 1991 standards and requirements for controlling the export of fruits “excluding citrus and certain deciduous fruits” were never promulgated.

Draft Agricultural Sector Code Published for Comment

The draft code is published in terms of the codes of good practice on broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE).

Cooperative Development Agency on the Cards

This was revealed by the deputy minister of trade and industry, Elizabeth Thabethe, during a speech at the launch of the South African chapter of the United Nations international year of cooperatives in Johannesburg.

DAFF Drafts Proposed Amendments to Liquor Products Act

According to a presentation document on the department’s strategic plan for 2012/13 to 2016/17, the draft bill is expected to be published during 2013/14 for comment.

Agricultural Products and Standards Act: Regulations Published for Fat Spreads

Regulations made under Agricultural Products Standards Act 119 of 1990 have been published affecting the classification, packing and marking of fat spreads.

They can be found in notice R194 of Government Gazette 35109 dated 9 March 2012 and affect all fat spreads for sale in South Africa, including yellow margarine, white/yellow fat-free spread, blended fat-free and margarine spreads, and vanaspati (ghee).

DAFF Publishes Statutory Measures for Milk Industry

This was announced in notices R196 and R197 of Government Gazette 35109 dated 9 March 2012.
