Plans Afoot to Halt Agricultural Land Decline

Agriculture, forestry and fisheries minister Senzeni Zokwana says bold steps are being taken to address the growing decline in high value cropping land.

The minister told the LandCare conference, being held in KwaZulu-Natal, the deterioration of fertile land “poses a major threat to food production and it cannot be allowed to continue unabated”.  He also said “mismanagement of arable land and grazing is threatening South Africa’s natural resource base as well as the national and household food security”.

Funding Sought for Citrus Research

The Citrus Research Institute (CRI) is looking for partners in a pre-harvest study to increase citrus exports.

According to a notice on the department of science and technology website, the CRI invites applications for funding of the research to be conducted between December 2014 and January 2018.

Updated Plant Variety Journal Published

According to a notice in the Government Gazette (37979 / 709 of 12 September 2014) the journal is compiled on a quarterly basis.
