Pork Industry Levy to Continue

Statutory measures in the pork industry in terms of the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act (1996) will continue for the next three years.

These measures apply to abattoirs and exporters of live pigs and relate to levies, registration, keeping of records and the rendering of returns.

Labour Department to Investigate Gardening Industry

The minimum wages and conditions of employment for the garden and landscaping sector are to be investigated by the Department of Labour.

This planned investigation will lead to a sectoral determination in terms of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (1997).

Amendment Proposed for Protection of Performing Animals

The draft of the Performing Animals Protection Amendment Bill has been published for public comment.

The bill seeks to amend the Performing Animals Protection Act (1935) which regulates through the issue of licences the exhibition and training of performing animals as well as the use of dogs for safeguarding of persons or property.
