Department of Labour
The minimum wage for workers in the forestry sector has been adjusted in terms of a sectoral determination under the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA).
The adjustment by the Department of Labour which will take effect from 1 April 2014 until 31 March 2015 will mean that the basic monthly salary will be increased by 8.5% from R2229.32 to R2420.41.

The 2014 Budget has prioritised food security initiatives and job creation in allocations across programmes within the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
The Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, in his budget speech this week said that government is developing an agricultural policy action plan to support the National Developments Plan’s (NDP) target of creating one million agriculture sector jobs by 2030.
Department of Rural Development and Land Reform
The Restitution of Land Rights Amendment Bill which extends the date for lodging claims for restitution until 31 December 2018 was passed by the National Assembly yesterday.
Public consultations on the bill have been held across the country since last November to allow interested persons and stakeholders to make comments and inputs on the reopening of the land claims process that closed in December 1998.
