Claims Limit for Small Claims Court Increased

Department of Justice and Constitutional Development

The maximum amount that can be claimed in the Small Claims Court has increased to R20 000.

The justice and constitutional development department published the adjusted amount in Government Gazette 42282.

National Credit Amendment Bill Sent for Assent

Parliament

Parliament has passed the National Credit Amendment Bill and sent it to president Ramaphosa for assent.

The committee bill was tabled in parliament on 6 September 2018.

NCOP Passes Public Health Institute Bill

Select Committee on Social Services

The select committee on social services has passed the National Public Health Institute of South Africa Bill and returned it to the national assembly for concurrence.

The section 76 bill was tabled in May 2017.

Comment Sought on Party Funding Regulations

Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission seeks comment on draft regulations regarding represented political party funding.

Published in Government Gazette 42273, the draft regulations flow from the Political Party Funding Act.

Parliament Passes AARTO Bill

Parliament

The Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Amendment Bill has been passed by parliament and sent to president Ramaphosa for assent.

The bill was tabled in parliament in December 2015.

Indigenous Knowledge Systems Bill Sent for Assent

Parliament

The Protection, Promotion, Development and Management of Indigenous Knowledge Systems Bill has been passed by parliament and sent to president Ramaphosa for assent.

The bill was tabled in parliament in April 2016.

National Health Laboratory Service Bill Passed

Parliament

Parliament has passed the National Health Laboratory Service Amendment Bill and sent it to president Ramaphosa for assent.

The national council of provinces (NCOP) amended the bill and returned it to the national assembly (NA) for concurrence in November 2018.
